WHAT IS IT?
The cédula de extranjería is Colombia's foreign resident identification card. It's the equivalent of a national ID for non-citizens and unlocks full access to Colombian services—banking, phone contracts, and unrestricted sportsbook registration.
WHY IT MATTERS FOR BETTING
- Open Colombian bank accounts (for PSE deposits)
- Register for Nequi/Daviplata mobile wallets
- Verify at any Colombian sportsbook
- Higher deposit/withdrawal limits
REQUIREMENTS
You need a Colombian visa first. The cédula de extranjería is issued to visa holders—you can't get one on tourist status.
Common visa types for Americans:
- M-visa (Migrant): Work, investment, retirement
- R-visa (Resident): Long-term residence
- V-visa (Visitor): Some subcategories eligible
THE PROCESS
Step 1: Obtain Colombian Visa
Apply through Colombian consulate or Cancillería website. Process varies by visa type—typically 2-8 weeks.
Step 2: Register Visa in Colombia
Within 15 days of arrival, register your visa at Migración Colombia. Schedule appointment online.
Step 3: Apply for Cédula
After visa registration, apply for cédula de extranjería at Migración Colombia. Bring passport, visa, photos, and payment.
Step 4: Receive Cédula
Processing takes 2-6 weeks. You'll receive a plastic ID card with your unique cédula number.
TIMELINE
Total process from start to cédula in hand: 2-6 months depending on visa type and processing times.
🎯 Don't Have a Cédula Yet?
You can still bet legally. Use Betsson or Stake with passport verification, and deposit via Efecty cash or crypto. The cédula makes things easier but isn't required.
ALTERNATIVE: BET WITHOUT CÉDULA
If you're not ready for residency, these sportsbooks accept US passport:
- Stake: Crypto deposits, passport verification
- Betsson: Efecty cash deposits, passport accepted
